From November 1 to January 6, MADD and its chapters across the country distribute thousands of red ribbons and car decals urging people to never drive impaired.
For more than 37 years, a simple red ribbon has served as a powerful reminder to drive responsibly. Mothers Against Drunk Driving have launched their annual Red Ribbon Campaign to promote sober driving during the holiday season. Patricia Hynes-Coates is the past president of MADD Canada. She says impaired driving affects everyone and she lost her son to a drunk driver. Justice and Public Safety Minister Bernard Davis says impaired driving incidents are totally preventable. He expects to see everyone driving with red ribbon on. RCMP Staff Sergeant Marie Yves Gingras is the acting officer in charge of Investigative Support Services overseeing Traffic Services. She says impaired driving continues to claim the lives of people each day throughout the country. In NL so far in 2024, 31 people have died in 27 crashes. RNC Chief Pat Roche says it’s unbelievable impaired driving is continuing. Project Red Ribbon is MADD’s annual awareness campaign to promote sober driving during the holiday season. From November 1 to January 6, MADD and its chapters across the country distribute thousands of red ribbons and car decals urging people to never drive impaired.
