When the puck drops tonight at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, it will be in honour of Gary Callahan for fifty years with minor hockey, 47 of those as a referee. On Bayfm with Lenny Benoit this morning, Callahan says his first game was in 1977 and has memories of the Alan Cup, the Bolton cup, a game between Canada and Czechoslovakia, Russian teams, and many more. He is working on training new referees. Callahan says he has no regrets and is still active with the sport. Tonight’s game between the Corner Brook Royals and the Stephenville Lightning gets underway at 8 o’clock.
