These art sessions are usually themed but always open ended so people can create what they want.
The Mental Wellness Outreach team with Qalipu First Nation is there to help members day to day through various events and opportunities. One example is their Community Arts program, where they offer supplies and space for people to gather and create art.
Marlie Smith and Hannah Taylor are outreach officers and recently joined Bayfm’s Lenny Benoit on Qalipu Today. Smith says these art sessions are usually themed but always open ended so people can create what they want. Taylor admits to not being an artistic person but as a child, she liked making bracelets. Last Saturday, the team held a Community Arts Drop-in for an Easter craft session.
Meanwhile, Smith spoke about why she got involved with mental wellness and Taylor says she’s always wanted to help people.
The team has hosted other sessions like ornament making and valentines making and are busy planning for future workshops. They are open to everyone and there is no charge.
