Officials gathered in St. Anthony yesterday afternoon to discuss the fire that destroyed the Boys and Girls Club. RCMP reported the blaze started Wednesday evening and advised motorists to stay away from the area. Firefighters had been monitoring a large fuel tank nearby and police asked people in nearby buildings to leave as a precaution. Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell is also the MHA for St. Barbe-L’Anse aux Meadows. She says the whole community is hurting. Howell was once an employee there and will always contend it was the best job ever but says it was so disheartening to see the building go up in flames. Howell says government will be there to help. She spent much of the day yesterday with club board members to find short term and long term solutions. The building was over 100 years old and part of the Grenfell legacy.
