A new Caregiver Benefit of $400 per month for eligible caregivers who provide significant unpaid assistance to lower income seniors with complex care needs as determined by a clinical assessment.
Snow Clearing, a homecare benefit, delivery of groceries, or home repairs and renovations are just a few of the highlights in Government’s Seniors’ Health and Well-Being Plan. The newly appointed Health Minister John Hogan released details yesterday afternoon. He says the plan will guide the delivery of the supports and services necessary for seniors to maintain health, well-being, dignity, and independence to age well. Hogan says this plan includes initiatives to improve seniors’ well-being and support healthy aging. Seniors Minister Paul Pike says the provincial home repair and modification programs help the independence of and provide the best care for seniors. Dr. Pat Parfrey is the Deputy Minister of Health Transformation and says these initiatives are in line with the Health Accord but more work needs to be done. Kimberly Leonard is the CEO of Seniors NL. She says every initiative has to start somewhere and this plan is a great roadmap for seniors to build upon.
