Bay St. George RCMP put out a plea yesterday for information on who was responsible or for the cat’s owner.

Thousands of dollars and donations from all over are coming in for an animal rescue group caring for a ginger cat that had been shot in an area near West Bay. Bay St. George RCMP put out a plea yesterday for information on who was responsible or for the cat’s owner.  Mariah Ricketts is a board member with Newlife Rescue based out of Carbonear and she is in charge of the west coast.. She says a lady posted about the cat, now named Romeo, wandered into her garage in West Bay in that condition.

Ricketts says Romeo was sent to Avalon Animal Hospital in St. John’s for surgery but has to treat an infection first and is on a “stick supportive care schedule that has to be followed perfectly.” He will be reassessed most likely weekly until the surgeon can perform a soft tissue surgery. Ricketts says it was shocking and sad to find out this little guy had been shot. She says Romeo has quite the will to live, and is purring loudly and “making biscuits” with his paws.
