February 16th was declared Heritage Day, and this is Heritage Week and the winner of a provincial poster contest is from a school in Corner Brook. Heritage NL announced that Spirha Biswas, a grade 7 student at Immaculate Heart of Mary School is the overall winner in their 21st annual Heritage Places Poster Contest! She won for her poster of the Glynmill Inn, which is a Provincial Registered Heritage Structure. Meanwhile, at this week’s public council meeting, Mayor Linda Chaisson spoke about the importance of Heritage Week, saying it is a time to reflect on the achievements of past generations and to accept responsibility for protecting our heritage. Our citizens are encouraged to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s uniqueness and to rejoice in our heritage.
