Qalipu First Nation Chief Jenny Brake recently attended the First Nations Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership gathering in Ottawa. On Bayfm’s Qalipu Today with Lenny Benoit, she spoke about the moment she witnessed a variety of First Nations artifacts returned from the Vatican Museums being uncrated. Brake says seeing these items being carefully opened and prepared for their return to Indigenous communities was a powerful experience.

Brake says 30 female Chiefs and council attended, and it included three days of training

Brake also sits on the National Fisheries Advisory Committee for the Assembly of First Nations and spent the next day and half in meetings. She’s known as “the seal lady”

Brake is excited to host the next National Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting here in May.
