Dr. Francine Lemire appointed to the Order of Canada

    An above-the-knee amputee, Lemire came in fourth in cross-country skiing in the 1984 games and two gold medals at the 1988 Paralympic Winter Games in Austria.

    A Corner Brook doctor and paralympian has been appointed to the Order of Canada. Dr. Francine Lemire represented Canada in the Paralympics in the eighties. An above-the-knee amputee, Lemire came in fourth in cross-country skiing in the 1984 games and two gold medals at the 1988 Paralympic Winter Games in Austria. She was a family doctor in Corner Brook for 25 years and was CEO of the College of Family Physicians of Canada for a decade. Governor General Mary Simon encourages each of us to become catalysts for the change we want to see in the Canadian Honours System by nominating individuals whose exceptional accomplishments may have gone unrecognized through the years.
