A Corner Brook doctor and paralympian has been appointed to the Order of Canada. Dr. Francine Lemire represented Canada in the Paralympics in the eighties. An above-the-knee amputee, Lemire came in fourth in cross-country skiing in the 1984 games and two gold medals at the 1988 Paralympic Winter Games in Austria. She was a family doctor in Corner Brook for 25 years and was CEO of the College of Family Physicians of Canada for a decade.
