The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands wants people to stop feeding or handling wild foxes.
Feeding foxes, or any wildlife, is a public safety hazard and could result in these animals being euthanized. Wild animals survive best on food they find in their natural habitat. When people give them an easy food source, these animals lose their natural fear of humans. While the instinct to help animals that seem to be hungry, newborn, abandoned or injured is understandable, animals should be left alone in nature where they belong. Human or pet food can also affect a wild animal’s health. They can be dangerous and unpredictable when approached and may carry diseases.
