RCMP do not believe any criminal activity was involved.

Deer Lake RCMP recently looked into a couple of traffic hazards on the Trans Canada Highway that involved trailers coming off transport trucks. On Wednesday January 21st., just before 8:00 p.m., a caller reported police received a white trailer – that had separated from a commercial vehicle – was blocking both lanes of the highway. An investigation was conducted and the owner of the trailer was identified and spoken to. Deer Lake RCMP believe that the trailer inadvertently disconnected after the operator of the commercial vehicle drove away with its landing gear down.

Meanwhile, Deer Lake RCMP responded to another similar complaint of a commercial trailer which disconnected from its tractor. RCMP NL engaged officials with the Department of Transportation, who conducted an inspection of the vehicle and believe that weather conditions – including ice build up from freezing and melting conditions, may have resulted in the trailers pin not engaging properly.

The investigation continues at this time, and no injuries were reported to police. RCMP do not believe any criminal activity was involved.
