This course provided firefighters with the knowledge and skills to safely respond to ground cover and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) incidents, helping protect our communities, homes, and natural landscapes.
Last weekend, the firehall was full when Deer Lake Fire Rescue hosted their first regional “Ground Cover Firefighting for Structural Firefighters” training course. Scott Bungay has been a firefighter for 17 years and joined the team in Deer Lake during 2017. He was a trainer during the event and says 28 west coast firefighters completed the training and there was a waitlist.
Bungay says this course provided firefighters with the knowledge and skills to safely respond to ground cover and Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) incidents, helping protect our communities, homes, and natural landscapes.
Bungay says training never stops in fire service and with wildland and grass fires becoming a growing concern, training like this is more important than ever.
Deer Lake Fire Rescue is planning to host more training courses this summer.
