Penney had been arrested and charged after being picked up around noon on Friday in the Deer Lake area.
Dean Frederick Penney, charged with the first degree murder of Jennifer Hillier-Penney is due to appear in Corner Brook Provincial Court this afternoon. On Saturday, the RCMP announced that Penney had been arrested and charged after being picked up around noon on Friday in the Deer Lake area. Police would not confirm the exact location of his arrest. Inspector Tracy Edwards, Officer in charge of Investigative Support Services, says they have been investigating this case since her disappearance on November 30th, 2016 and this is a case of intimate partner violence. While no remains have yet been found, Edwards did confirm there is enough evidence to lay a charge of murder. RCMP have also confirmed that their recent presence in the area of Northwest Arm on the Northern Peninsula is connected to the investigation. It is around this location that Penney owns or had previously owned a cabin. Police vessels were seen active in the waters of this area.
