Councillor Charles Pender says it works out to be about 5% over budget. Pender asked if there was a total cost on extra change orders but Mayor Jim Parsons says we’re lucky the overall cost isn’t higher than what it is with the costs of inflation.
So far, the cost of construction on the new Corner Brook Recreational Centre is $1.1 million over budget and according to council, there are still some change orders to be added to that number. Also, construction isn’t expected to be completed until late spring. The matter was discussed during Monday night’s public meeting. Councillor Charles Pender says it works out to be about 5% over budget. Pender asked if there was a total cost on extra change orders but Mayor Jim Parsons says we’re lucky the overall cost isn’t higher than what it is with the costs of inflation. At the centre, paint & plaster is nearly complete, pool mechanical equipment installation is ongoing and most millwork has been installed. Meanwhile, the Recreation Services Department has begun posting for positions that will be integral in the operation of the new Recreation Centre.
