When Garvey retired in 2020, Mosher adopted him as part of his family. He says when you lose someone like that, it leaves a hole in your heart.
With 18 years as an officer with the RNC, Corner Brook’s Cst Scott Mosher has spent half that time as a dog handler…..and for him, it’s never easy to lose a partner. Police Service Dog Garvey passed away this month, after a career in Corner Brook.
In 2016, Mosher started the RCMP PSD training program in Alberta and will never forget the first time he met Garvey. He says the training was probably his biggest challenge ever but gave him an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Towards the end of training, Garvey was diagnosed with pancreatic disease and the RNC were concerned, since he did not graduate yet and had a lifelong condition. Mosher says it was manageable with medication and a proper diet so he advocated on Garvey’s behalf. When Garvey retired in 2020, Mosher adopted him as part of his family. He says when you lose someone like that, it leaves a hole in your heart.
