Jim Parsons says now he’s hearing Saltwire will be combining Western and Central Newfoundland news into one weekly paper.
Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons is concerned about local news. He says Saltwire owns the newspaper that replaced the Western Star, a daily newspaper which has become a weekly edition. Parsons says now he’s hearing they will be combining western NL and Central news into one weekly paper. He says this hurts and we’ve seen combining services with CBC. Parsons says he understands media is a business but local news is needed. He says there could be more cuts coming this way with the CBC and people should be writing to their MP to stress the need for local news. Parsons says he feels bad for employees facing these changes.
