This program will include homes in the City and surrounding region of Western Newfoundland including the Bay of Islands, Humber Valley, and White Bay South areas.
The city of Corner Brook is launching a new program to distribute and install upwards of 3000 battery operated smoke alarms to owner occupied homes built before the year 2000. Government has allocated $90,000 for the program. Deputy Fire Chief Derek Simmons says as homes change the fire risk increases and the amount of time to be able to get out safely gets shorter. This program will include homes in the City and surrounding region of Western Newfoundland including the Bay of Islands, Humber Valley, and White Bay South areas. Simmons says 3 minutes is not enough time to get out. An application form is available at www.cornerbrook.com/smokealarms. Alarms could be installed as early as next week.
