Assistant Director of Engineering, Aaron O’Brien says these services could not be done by city staff, who handle quantities and directing of the work, which saves the city a lot money
With the cost of asphalt down 12 percent over last year, the city of Corner Brook needs inspection services for this year’s paving season. At Monday’s public meeting, council approved a contract worth more than $1.3M to Marine Contractors Inc. for the supply of 3240 metric tonnes of asphalt and road repairs. Councillor Steve Perchard spoke about a contract with AllRock Consulting Ltd. worth nearly $39K for services including on-site inspections, reporting, and quality assurance of the construction.
Assistant Director of Engineering, Aaron O’Brien says these services could not be done by city staff, who handle quantities and directing of the work. He says this saves the city a lot money and is the actual testing of the asphalt. O’Brien says the inspection services ensure the quality of asphalt being used is being met by the contractor. He says as asphalt is being laid, these professionals are inspecting the work being done.
