The city of Corner Brook is asking residents and motorists to be careful with the heavy rain and strong winds hitting the area. City officials say similar rain events in the past have caused washouts and closures of roads and bridges,  interruption of transportation networks, and even mudslides and landslides. Similar wind events in the past have caused damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong crosswinds. Due to the rain, visibility may be impaired. Residents, visitors and commuters to and from the city should proceed with caution. Secure anything that could fly away. Check and clear catch basins and drains in your neighborhoods and report issues to 709-637-1666.
