Updated: Services restored following Bell Aliant fibre optic break

    Crews restored services late Friday evening.

    A fibre optic cable break north of Deer Lake affected communications across Western Newfoundland and the Northern Peninsula Friday, according to Bell Aliant. The company stated late Friday evening that communications had been restored in areas affected by the outage, which started in the early hours of Friday. Adverse weather was cited as the cause of the fibre break.

    Communications are down across parts of Western Newfoundland and the Northern Peninsula due to a major Bell Aliant fibre break near Deer Lake. There is no estimated restoration time right now.
