Eddie Joyce says gabion baskets keeping the rocks from falling on roads are decades old.

Bayfm news has carried several stories about the safety concerns on the south shore highway in the Bay of Islands. Last week in the House of Assembly, the MHA for the Bay of Islands brought his concerns again to the floor. Eddie Joyce says the way the government ranks the severity of roads has changed. Joyce says gabion baskets keeping the rocks from falling on roads are decades old. He says Lark Harbour and York Harbour Mayors have been asking for some time to have these safety issues addressed but it’s all decided through politics. Joyce says the Hughes Brook bridge was started in 2018 and they ran into an artesian well, so that work is the only roads work for the area included in the Budget this year.
