There will be a grand prize of a $4000 travel gift certificate.
The city of Corner Brook is looking for residents to adopt a fire hydrant and there will be a grand prize of a $4000 travel gift certificate. There are 735 fire hydrants throughout the city that need to be kept free of snow and easily accessible by firefighters in case of emergencies. The Adopt a Hydrant contest will run from December 15th to March 31st. Councillor Vaughn Granter says this contest is open to everyone. Granter says last year there was a forty percent decline in the number of residents taking part. The Corner Brook Fire Department will be handing out gift certificates throughout the season to random people who keep hydrants clean.
