Councillor Vaughn Granter voted against the proposal until he’s had a chance to review all comments and moved that the matter be postponed.
A proposal to add a third residential unit to a current 2 unit structure on Highland Avenue in Corner Brook is on hold. At this week’s public meeting, Councillor Bill Griffin says the building is located in a Residential Low-Density Zone where the proposed use, (Apartment Building) is considered a “Discretionary Use” of the City of Corner Brook’s Development Regulations. On February 13th, 2024 the application was placed on the City of Corner Brook’s website and a Notice Occupant memo was sent to the neighbors in the surrounding area. Also on February 21st, 2024 it was advertised in the local newspaper giving the general public a chance to express any concerns that they may have with this development. The city did receive responses both supporting and against the proposed development. Meanwhile, Councillor Vaughn Granter says Highland Avenue is a very narrow street and he’s brought the issue to council before asking for it to be a one way street. He says residents have asked for it and he noticed there were concerns raised in the attachment provided. Granter voted against the proposal until he’s had a chance to review all comments and moved that the matter be postponed.
