NLC is reporting an increase of $1.7M over last year’s numbers in earnings for the first quarter of the year, ringing in at nearly $48M. This is due to a 21.3% increase in the commissions earned on the sale of beer through Brewers’ Agents due adjustments last year. Alcohol Beverage sales were $75.8 M up 0.3%, with wine sales up 3.4% and beer was higher by 0.2%. Sales for both Spirits and ready-to-drink products (RTD) were also down.
Meanwhile, Cannabis sales were slightly more than $29M a decrease of 2.5% over last year’s first quarter. This is due to a decline in product self-distributed by local producers. NLC issued a call for up to 15 new licensed cannabis retailers during the quarter focusing on rural areas and there are currently 62 across the province.
