MHA’s will be back in their seats at the House of Assembly today for a special sitting to debate an agreement dealing with the development of Churchill Falls and Gull Island. Members will be able to ask questions on behalf of constituents and hear from those who negotiated the potential deal before they vote. The first three days of the four-day debate, will also include independent commercial advisors, financial experts, the Board of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, the Chair of the Oversight Committee, Natural Resources Canada, and a MP to discuss the Federal Government’s commitments. Opening remarks will include Independent Humber-Bay of Islands MHA Eddie Joyce, who will speak on the proposed resolution. This will be followed by more than 19 hours of questioning by Members to guests who won’t be under a speaking-time limit. There will also be a question period where MHA’s can question the government and they will each be given a ten minute slot to speak during closing remarks on the final day.
