In a rapidly changing world, the federal and provincial governments have agreed to a new way of handling environmental assessments creating conditions to be able to build faster and attract investment. The “one project, one review” approach will mean less duplication with a simpler approach while ensuring that protection of the environment and Indigenous Peoples’ rights are upheld. The Government of Canada is focused on building a stronger, more independent, and more resilient economy by accelerating projects, in partnership with provinces and territories. Similar agreements are already in place with British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
