The 18th Annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk and Vigil will take place in Corner Brook this week on Thursday, September 10. The walk starts 7 p.m. from Remembrance Square in the city’s downtown and is meant to spread awareness about suicide prevention and to support those who have lost someone to suicide.
Sandie Batt is an organizer of the event and was there when the walk first started. She says last year, over 300 people took part in the walk. This year’s theme is “Change the Narrative, Start the Conversation.”
Batt says this year’s guest speaker will be Becky McHugh, daughter of the late Dave McHugh, who was a prominent musician and entertainer in Corner Brook.
All proceeds from the walk support local life promotion and suicide prevention initiatives.
