Tuesday afternoon, a 55-year-old man travelling with a group died after being trapped underneath his snowmobile in a river near Angus Lake.
There have been two fatal snowmobile crashes in this region since Friday. A 66-year-old man who was travelling alone, died after being trapped underneath his snowmobile near Eddie’s Cove West. Tuesday afternoon, a 55-year-old man travelling with a group died after being trapped underneath his snowmobile in a river near Angus Lake. RCMP Cpl Jolene Garland says the man ended up in a brook. The unresponsive man was removed from the water by his friends who administered countless rounds of CPR. Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful. Deer Lake Search and Rescue was engaged, along with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC). The man’s body was taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. He was pronounced deceased during his transport. Garland says if you are heading out to remote areas, snowmobilers should travel in groups. Both men were taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital and the Chief Medical Examiner is involved in the investigations.
