For decades, children who lived within 1.6 kilometres of a school were not permitted to ride the bus to school.

Transportation Minister Fred Hutton is remembering his time as a journalist now that the new bussing policy is in effect. For decades, children who lived within 1.6 kilometres of a school were not permitted to ride the bus to school. On Tuesday, Premier Andrew Furey announced a new bussing policy without the 1.6 kilometre rule. Hutton says this was done in phases and was a $20 million dollar investment. He says there will be hiccups over the next couple of weeks and he’s asking people to be patient as this new  service rolls out.
