RCMP Cpl Jolene Garland says it’s unknown how long it will take before the highway is open again.
The city of Corner Brook has opened Riverside Drive as a means to handle traffic backlog along the Trans Canada Highway. Riverside Drive has been closed to traffic since a landslide occurred there on April 2. This morning, a tanker overturned and spilled a massive amount of oil. Businesses in the area were evacuated and the TCH closed due to the risk of fire and explosion. RCMP Cpl Jolene Garland says it’s unknown how long it will take before the highway is open again.
Traffic traveling East-bound along the Trans-Canada Highway can enter Corner Brook through Exit 5 (near Massey Drive) and travel through Confederation Drive, take a left onto Lewin Parkway at the lights, then take the exit onto Riverside Drive and exit the City to continue along.
West-bound traffic can enter through Exit 7 (Man In The Mountain) and follow Riverside Drive to Lewin Parkway, then take Lewin Parkway west to Highway 450 and exit past Watson’s Pond Industrial Park (or also follow Lewin Parkway and Confederation Drive to Massey Drive).
