Pull off the roadway if you need to talk or text. Pre-program your radio and GPS.
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the RNC is reminding motorists that any distraction that takes your attention away from driving, even for a second, significantly increases the risk of a collision. Cst James Cadigan distracted driving includes anything that takes you away from paying attention to the road. This could be a device, eating, grooming or communicating with someone in the car. Motorists should keep their phone out of reach so the temptation to use it is gone. Pull off the roadway if you need to talk or text. Pre-program your radio and GPS.
Cadigan says parents should talk to their children about the importance of staying focused on the drive, and set a good example by avoiding distractions. He says this type of driving often leads to charges like going through a red light, failing to yield, etc. Cadigan says distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death and serious injury on our province’s roadways – tragedies that are 100 per cent preventable.
