A Stephenville man is facing criminal charges after crashing his vehicle into a Tim Hortons in the town early yesterday morning. Cpl Jesse O’Donaghey says police were called to the business just before 7:30 a.m. Bay St. George RCMP received a report of a disturbance involving two people outside the business on Main Street. The pair were known to each other and the dispute escalated, and ended when the man crashed his vehicle into the main entrance of the business, causing significant damage to the building and nearly striking the other person.
The vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival but later returned. O’Donaghey says the driver was taken into police custody. Wayne Mugford has been charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and resist/obstruct a peace officer. The investigation is ongoing.
