The town of Deer Lake is anxious to see shovels in the ground this year on a new community healthcare centre. Back in October, Premier Andrew Furey was in his district to announce a $2.5 million dollar annual contract has been awarded to Marco Group Ltd. The new Humber Valley-White Bay Community Health Centre on Humberview Drive will be approximately 30,000 square feet. Town Manager Jason Young  says it will include offices and clinical space to support team-based care delivered by health care professionals such as family physicians, registered nurses, and others. Young says Deer Lake is an economic hub for many smaller communities within the Humber Valley. He says the hope is to have it open by the spring of next year and they’ve met with the Marco group to get permits in place and they’re ready to go. Construction trailers are in place and electricity to the site is working. Young says with the mild weather so far this winter, it may even be possible to start in March.
