RNC ready to lay charges if any injuries occur at protests today

    A statement from the RNC says, “There are specific Criminal Code violations for injuries against a law enforcement animal which will be pursued.” 

    While police respect the rights of demonstrators their own safety is paramount. At a demonstration by fish harvesters outside of Confederation building yesterday, one officer was injured and two horses in the RNC Mounted Unit were struck by protestors which forced the Mounted Unit to retreat. It led to the Budget speech being postponed amid violence and threats. A statement from the RNC says, “There are specific Criminal Code violations for injuries against a law enforcement animal which will be pursued.”  The RNC respects the right to a peaceful protest. Our role is to ensure public safety and our priority remains the safety of all present.
