Regulated child care providers in Corner Brook are not getting regular pay and haven’t been paid now for over three months. Terri Donahue says she’s been providing regulated daycare for 17 years in this area. On Bayfm this morning with Lenny Benoit, Donahue says these early childhood educators are paid quarterly and pay was due to be in the bank nearly two weeks ago now. In 2021, the federal and provincial governments reached an agreement to support an average of $10-a-day regulated child care in this province. Donahue says since that time, paydays have been irregular and random. Furthermore, Donahue says it’s hard to budget for three months. She says they are required to provide quality programming and are passionate about what they do but it’s hard to do that without the money being there on time. Donahue says some operators are saying they can’t open as a result of this.
