RCMP lay first-degree murder charge in death of Deer Lake woman

    Police have been conducting an investigation inside this Deer Lake home in relation to the murder.

    The RCMP have released more information on a suspicuous death in Deer Lake first resported on Friday.

    The RCMP has laid charges against a Deer Lake man in connection to a suspicious death in the community on Friday.

    Police have charged 33 year-old Justin Campbell with first-degree murder following the death of a 69 year-old woman found deceased in her Deer Lake home on Friday. Officials have confirmed that the man is a relative of the victim.

    On Friday, police advised of an increased presence on Nicholsville Road Extension in Deer Lake as part of their investigation, which is being lead by the RCMP's Major Crimes Unit. At that time, RCMP also said that there was no threat to the general public.

    Campbell appeared in court today and was remanded into custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 11, 2023.
