There’s a new Home Energy Efficiency Initiative with the Qalipu First Nations Housing Division. This group has been active since 2022 developing housing support programs to help 25, 000 off reserve first nation members. Paul Brake says members have been asking for this. He says heat pumps for the average min-split can cost upwards of $6000 but larger units can go as high as $15,000 and there may also be structural changes to the home needed. Cory Lacouer recently held engagement sessions for members in Corner Brook and on the Port au Port Peninsula. He says members are very interested. The Qalipu First Nation Housing Division consists of a group of four and they currently have an opening for another. For more information go to qalipu.ca
