It has been almost 15 years since Qalipu First Nation was federally recognized, and last weekend a historic first. The meeting of Chief and Council was held on May 30th in St.John’s. On Bayfm’s Qalipu Today, Chief Jenny Brake spoke about feedback she’s received on the need to include members from outside the traditional territory and how they feel a lack of connection.

Brad Evoy is the Chief Administrative Officer with QFN. He says the room was packed and the focus was on key priorities,  like language revitalization and housing instability. Environmental stewardship and forest management were also discussed. Evoy says council passed a new policy dealing with rights and territories.

There will be a summer meeting of the Council but it will be virtual.
