On the second Qalipu Today this week, Lenny Benoit spoke with Qalipu First Nations Chief Brendan Mitchell. The Chief says Truth and Reconciliation started in 2008 and that work culminated in a report in 2015. He says the report contained 94 calls to action and there is work left to be done. There will be events throughout the west coast today as part of National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Meanwhile, one lane of traffic will be closed on West Street, Main Street and Park Street today for a community walk. Todd Street and Chestnut street will be fully closed. The closures will start at 10:00 a.m. as part of Qalipu First Nation’s events honouring the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Traffic should proceed with caution during this time or avoid the area if possible. The lanes will open when the walk has finished.
Qalipu First Nation has events planned throughout the day. For more information see their website here: (link).
