There’s an open house in Corner Brook this evening for anyone interested in finding out about a project that includes the city’s port becoming a green energy hub. It’s a partnership between the Corner Brook Port Corporation and CWP Global and is called, “Project Gwinya.” CWP Business Development rep Steve Delaney says they’re proposing to build a 5 GW Green Hydrogen wind farm in the Gaff Topsails area to produce green hydrogen and green iron with an HBI or hot briquetted iron (HBI) Plant. Currently Iron Ore in Labrador is being shipped down to Texas to a very similar plant. Delaney says Corner Brook has many advantages, like a deep port that can handle the world’s largest iron ore freighters. Construction on the project could take two to three years and will come with 1000’s of jobs. Tonight’s session gets underway at the Glynmill Inn at 7p.m.
