Premier Tony Wakeham has issued a statement on the passing of a former Senator from the Bay St. George area. Ethel Cochrane was the first woman appointed to represent Newfoundland and Labrador in the Senate of Canada in 1986 and she served for more than 25 years. A teacher by training, Cochrane worked as an educator in her native home of Port au Port East and ended her career as a school principal.
