March report recommends a $25,000 salary increase for MHAs, after this annual salary has been frozen since 2009.

Premier Andrew Furey doesn’t think now is a good time for a pay raise. A March report recommends a $25,000 salary increase for MHAs, after this annual salary has been frozen since 2009. The 2024 members’ compensation review committee recommends an annual MHA salary to be $120,000. A move that would cost government more than $985,000 for 40 MHA’s each year. Furey says the opposition supports it but he doesn’t at time when other people in the province are experiencing a crunch due to increases in the cost of living. The more than 200-page report, titled How We Value Democracy also recommends increases for eight additional-salary positions, including Speaker and leader of the Official Opposition and 10 new additional-salary positions should also be added.
