Premier Andrew Furey and Industry Minister Andrew Parsons are off to the Netherlands.

They’re attending the World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition in Rotterdam this week. A summit has been held annually since 2020 to gather governments, hydrogen and energy stakeholders, service providers, and hydrogen end-users. This event will be attended by 8,000 people from over 100 countries, which has doubled since last year. Companies which operate throughout the hydrogen development chain, including regulators, construction companies, energy buyers, utility companies, and shipping companies, will also be attending the summit.

Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between government and the Port of Rotterdam. This partnership will encourage supply chains to support the export of green hydrogen to the Netherlands, and then to other parts of Europe. Premier Andrew Furey says this highlights the significant potential of Newfoundland and Labrador’s renewable energy resources, in particular its wind resources, and the opportunity to bring them to the global marketplace in the form of green hydrogen.

The Port of Rotterdam is the largest inland port in Europe with over 3,000 companies. On August 23rd last year, the Town of Stephenville hosted the signing of a Declaration of Intent to establish a Canada-Germany Hydrogen Alliance.
