Opposition Leader calls for seven-day-a-week recreational food fishery

    On the opening day of this year’s food fishery, June 28th, two individuals were rescued after their boat overturned off Crawley’s Point.

    The leader of the opposition, Tony Wakeham, is pushing for a seven-day-a-week recreational cod fishery from now to October 1st. Wakeham said the expanded season would boost local economies, support tourism, and improve safety on the water. On the opening day of this year’s food fishery, June 28th, two individuals were rescued after their boat overturned off Crawley’s Point. Wakeham said the incident is a clear reminder of the risks created by a weekend-only schedule that pressures people onto the water in limited time frames.
