The president of the Corner Brook Baseball Association is wondering what to do now that the feds have cut funding to hire students. On Bayfm with Lenny Benoit, Jason Mosher spoke about how their program is run based on these student grants and they have been getting enough for 7 for as long as he can remember.
Mosher says without having people there, this will affect things like coaching, canteen services, administration and even tournaments, like the upcoming Senior Provincial Championships which was Corner Brook’s turn to host. He says other sports groups are also being affected, like Pasadena Baseball, Corner Brook Rapids Swimming, and Beach Volleyball.
Mosher says other levels of government are trying to help but the loss is about $35K to these young people. The provincial government increased their grant by $5K. Mosher says when he heard about the cuts, he was shocked. He says this year, there was no increase in registration but now that’s gone and they will have to focus on more fundraising efforts.
