Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne says in 2017 a decision was made to change the design of the hospital to not include a PET Scanner but in 2021, government gave the hospital’s Foundation $2 million dollars to purchase the equipment.
The final pieces are being put in place for a PET scanner at the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital. That’s according to Corner Brook MHA Gerry Byrne. He says in 2017 a decision was made to change the design of the hospital to not include a PET Scanner. Byrne says in 2021, government gave the hospital’s Foundation $2 million dollars to purchase the equipment. He says space was included in the design of the facility. Byrne says this new equipment will become part of an overall PET scanner strategy for the whole province. He says there will be enough staff to operate it. Meanwhile, Byrne says recruitment continues for an oncologist for the new Radiation Department and government will have further information soon.
