Qalipu members can access support for medical services at Western Memorial Regional Hospital through a new Indigenous Patient Navigator. Scott Janes started the job about 6 months ago. He says not many people were aware of the new role but things have been picking up. Janes says he sees a lot of returning individuals who find it helpful to have somebody in this role. He says this help can range from physical to financial and family assistance. Janes says it can be lonely, scary and overwhelming while staying in the hospital and he takes pride in being there for those who need him.
