Within 24 hours after the current owner submits their change of ownership, the new owner will receive an email notification with a link to their MyGovNL account to complete the ownership transfer.
A new service recently added to MyGovNL makes it easier to transfer ownership of a vehicle. Owners are required to notify Motor Registration Division within 10 days of a change of ownership, whether the vehicle has been sold through a private sale or been gifted. Both parties can do this online with their free MyGovNL accounts, which can be easily created using a valid email address. Within 24 hours after the current owner submits their change of ownership, the new owner will receive an email notification with a link to their MyGovNL account to complete the ownership transfer. Failure to notify the Motor Registration Division of a change of ownership may result in a fine and the previous owner may continue to be liable for traffic fines, impound fees or damages related to a collision.
