Local Grade 6 student Joey Manning won the city’s “Mayor for the Day Essay Contest.”
Municipal Awareness Week kicked off in Corner Brook yesterday with another Mayor at the helm. Local Grade 6 student Joey Manning won the city’s “Mayor for the Day Essay Contest.” On Bayfm with Dean Clarke this morning, Mayor Linda Chaisson says all grade six students were invited to write an essay about what they would do if they were Mayor. At last night’s mock council meeting, Mayor Manning started by declaring Municipal Awareness Week has started.
Once the agenda was approved, Councillor Drew Smallwood spoke about the new Curling-Westside Reservoir. Councillor Ire Egbedinni reminded residents about the annual bulk garbage clean up underway. Councillor Gabrielle Jacobs spoke about the NLSummer Games coming to Corner Brook in August and the need for volunteers. And Councillor Agelina Li talked about the importance of the city’s information app, Voyent Alert.
Municipal Awareness Day is this Friday (May8th) with plenty on the go at the Civic Centre Studio. There will be outdoor equipment displays, indoor information booths, a fun zone, BBQ and an opportunity to win a prize. This public event takes place from noon 12:00 until 2:00 p.m.
