One of the newest search and rescue lifeboats at the Canadian Coast Guard will be operational in the Bay of Islands by next summer. CCGS Groswater Bay, has arrived in St. John’s. Senior Fleet Director Ryan Tettamanti says there are 20 new lifeboats joining the fleet. He says these boats are really impressive, ready to respond right away and this boat is 62 feet with a top speed of 24 knots, and can operate 100 nautical miles from shore. Tettamanti says there’s a new station being built in Lark Harbour which should be complete by 2027. It will have a new dock, require some dredging but the CCGS Groswater bay will arrive before that and the plan is for next summer. The ship was built by Hike Metal Products Ltd under the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
